PostSubject: Halo 3 modding   Fri Oct 17, 2008 12:29 am

Well, every once in a while I check back on the halo mods forums, in the small hope that there will be a new post in the mac section. Every time I check, it seems that the halo 3 modding scene has grown... theres some pretty awesome stuff happening (want to flood a halo 3 map with water, anyone?) So, I just wanted to find out if anyone here has attempted to mod halo 3. I'm thinking about buying the needed hardware and trying myself... it doesn't look very hard. Just think, we could be the first halo 3 modding team Very Happy.

Thoughts?

mmm 1 thought. Modding chip. Would you kindly risk breaking your xbox and voiding the warranty?

You don't need a xbox 360 modchip to mod halo 3... you just need a special usb flashdrive that connects to the xbox. No modding required, so no warranty breaking.

The only thing in this that could get you in trouble is if you're stupid enough to slip up and let bungie find out that you're hacking the game... then its an insta ban from matchmaking.

They don't want it to go mainstream, but Bungie's not going to send out scouts to look for Halo 3 modding sites. I'm betting you they've gone to Halomods, and everyone there who modded hasn't been instantly and fully banned from Halo 3.

Currently there are no Halo 3 modding tools for the mac.

The way bungie will ban you is if you put a modded map in your file share, or by it online. You just need to disconnect your xbox from the internet and you should be safe.

There are a bunch of modding tools for PC, but they are mostly all for research... thats why I want to get involved now, so when halo 3 becomes as easily moddable as halo 1 everyone one will come to me for help (I still get random people who IM me and ask for help with mods)

Great. Make some tools from scratch to mod Halo 3 forge maps.

Bungie currently will not ban you for playing modded maps online; only if you put it on your file share. I have plenty of modded gametypes and maps, and I haven't been banned.

Have you made the mods yourself?

What we really need is a 1997 type forge, like the one that came with Marathon Infinity. If someone made something like that, forge maps would look godly.

Well that forge was a full on map maker... its currently impossible to make something like that for halo 3. I should work on getting a dev kit so i can experiment.

I have not made any of my own mods, as I don't have a windoze computer.
