So my 360 finally broke... really I was lucky it lasted so long, it was one of the first generations.
So, should I either -
1) Fix it
2) Get a new 360 (an elite)
3) Get a PS3

Well an elite is around $300 right? You can usually get your xbox repaired/replaced for $150, saving you $150 (Not including shipping fees).

personally I don't see elites as being worth the extra money(even tho its not that much anymore) so what? they are black? have a few extra cables that will cost you like $2-$5 at any electronics store? and they got a bigger HD which isnt that important in a console?
and don't go ps3, I can't give to many reasons without going into the fact that i don't personally like them. Apart from "why spend money on this when repairing the already owned 360?"
and like already said, repair is only $150, and thats by far the cheapest one. Oh and if you get a ps3 you will have to buy new games, when you already got the ones for your 360.

Well I don't think that getting it repaired is a good idea, it's an old model and would just keep breaking.

repair it yourself? find out what piece of hardware is faulty, then buy the thing to replace it lol, Most common thing that broke in the old models is the DVD drive I think... lol

well you can do like i did, trash your broken one, save the HD and cables and buy an xbox arcade for a little more than the repairs (depends, i got my arcade for less xD) and get a 2 (or is it 3) year waranty, because microsoft say that you get a one year waranty after repair, but that is pure bullshit.

oh btw my bro is up to his third 360 lol. His first one he got which never had any problems at all. Got stolen, his second one started displaying a message when he put games into it "to play this disc please put it in a 360 console" but after say 30mins of turning it off and on it would load. then it got the red ring and my bro thought stuff it, and brought a new one.
then last time at his when ever i put GH: world tour in it gave that message but turning off and on fixed it lol.
I brought mine, and.... never had any problems with it.... ever.
So maybe you should give me the money, I buy it for you, send it to you, and you should not have any problems whats so ever lol.

It's strange; my Xbox has never red-ringed except for when my parents were fucking dumb and played Rock Band all day and all night and the Xbox was covered and the disc drive was running and it overheated. It was k.
But the thing is, though my Xbox is fine, everything else is fucked up. Of my three controllers, one works fine but has slightly slow-responding thumb-sticks, my original white one works fine but has messed up vibration response, and my last one has a broken clicker on the left thumb-stick.
Then my headphones are always breaking and I have to get new ones, and my microphones either a) Decide to crap out but make it look like I'm talking but no one can hear me (wired mic) or b) Make an annoying as shit buzzing sound randomly. (wireless) Luckily, neither of my mics do this very often and I've only had to replace headphones twice. It could be worse.

lol I haven't had any problems with 360 stuff, But the controllers for my original xbox have gone through hell and back. which everything that has happened to them can be categorized under one heading. "Young Cousins."
But I made sure with my 360 stuff by being super strict with them.

I'm quite sure they just replace the early models, all of the soldering points are fucked, and it would cost a whole lot to replace every one and clean the board. Even that concept it flawed though, because it would cost less to replace the board, and even less to replace the xbox.

I have a friend who bought a used first gen Xbox 360 (Nightingale/Mr. Pig). It RROD'd on him, so he sent it back in and they repaired it. However, his two wireless controllers are screwed up. Any time rumble goes off, it dislodges the battery pack on it, causing lulz when he plays TF2.
