No it was doing this at a lan party all weekend, I couldn't copy anything 6gb+ But I was copying stuff that was 3 and 4 gb.
I came back from the lan party with 200-300gb of more files.
Hurray for file sharing!!!

I found out what was wrong, thanks to the internets.
My external is formatted as FAT32 which apparently FAT32 drives can't have any 4gb+ files copyied to it. But it is more than happy to have 4gb+ files on a FAT32 drive...
fail much? lol

i literally just went through the same problem a couple weeks ago, you have to convert the FAT32 volume to NFTS, its real simple.
trying to move some games onto my external, had the same problem.

Yeah I never will convert my external for a couple reasons.
1.) don't have enough space on pc to back up EVERYTHING.
2.) I USE LINUX.
with No. 2 in mind 1 doesn't even matter or need to be said.

Linux and Windows 7 both have xFAT support now, you could try formatting it like that (except for problem 1)

I don't know how configurable new Apple machines are, but if possible I would get a better CPU over more RAM. Getting an extra 4 gigs of RAM will give you less of a performance boost than getting processor that runs at, say, 3.4GHz.
