A lone blue soldier peers over a mountain fortification, scanning green territory for movement. There - by those pink blocks - the entrance to a green bunker! My god, they've hollowed out that hill and connected it to their spawn points with tunnels! But those lazy greens forgot that this isn't Minecraft, and those blocks have physics... a few well-placed grenades later, and the hill collapses on top of the green invasion force, leaving them scrambling back to their tunnels amidst coordinated blue fire.
This is Ace of Spades, and it might be my new favorite game. The generic description is "Minecraft with guns," and that's pretty accurate. Two teams, blue and green, face each other across a map in a game of CTF. Blue team spawns in a large mountainous area that favors sniping but is hard to defend, and green spawns in a smaller, more easily defended marshland that favors tunneling and trenching. You're armed with a spade, which destroys one block and the blocks immediately above and below it, a pick-axe, which is used to damage a single block and to pick up blocks for placing, a rifle (head shots are an instant kill, body shots take three hits), grenades, which destroy blocks and players, and a block placer, which is used to, um, place blocks.
I use the lite server browser, which you can find on the wiki.
Seriously this game is awesome... I played it with Spacecow for a while last night and then moved to a different server after he left, I stayed up until 6:00 AM playing on that one server. It was the first time since, man, probably Fallout 3, that I've stayed up all night playing a game. Really really fun and addicting, and its especially awesome if you have a good group of people playing
Oh did I mention it uses voxel rendering? Not Mincecraftian - oh sure they're voxels because they're blocks but really render everything with polygons voxels - but real honest to goodness old school voxel raycasting, build on Silverman's voxlap engine no less.
Did I mention I'm in love with this game?
