well you can run steam with wine, and you cna run it exceptionally well with wine. but this is really nice! =D

I don't really think many steam games could run properly on my 64MB card, maybe HL1 or something. Which is why I use a goddamn PC.

'We looked at a variety of methods to get our games onto the Mac and in the end decided to go with native versions rather than emulation," said John Cook, Director of Steam Development. "The inclusion of WebKit into Steam, and of OpenGL into Source gives us a lot of flexibility in how we move these technologies forward. We are treating the Mac as a tier-1 platform so all of our future games will release simultaneously on Windows, Mac, and the Xbox 360. Updates for the Mac will be available simultaneously with the Windows updates. Furthermore, Mac and Windows players will be part of the same multiplayer universe, sharing servers, lobbies, and so forth. We fully support a heterogeneous mix of servers and clients. The first Mac Steam client will be the new generation currently in beta testing on Windows."

Also, if you buy a Mac game, you can play the Windows version, and vice versa. It uses Steam Cloud to sync your saves.

All in all, this seems like a win for users. However, I see third parties (i.e. not valve) fucking this up.

Garry's Mod is on steam, but is made by Garry, not Valve. All of Valve's games will be ported, but we don't know yet about other developers/publishers. Garry said he would probably port Garry's mod to Mac when the rumors started, assuming it wasn't something crazy impossible.

They said multiplayer will be completely intersystem, Mac users can play with PC users and vice versa. I don't know if they are releasing server binaries for Mac (They have them for Windows and Linux). In short, anyone can join any server.
