I wonder why did bungie not give the pelican in halo 2 and 3 a ground collsion model and own controlls? why the heck did they give it banshee controls (its what is has if you modify it so its drivable)
Is is because it would take less space on the disk or what?

I have a couple of halo 2 mods with drivable pelicans. same with custom edition.
I sort of agree with you.
Why not just make it drivable in the campaign? it would be so much fun. It would be next to no use in MP with the small maps but hey.

There's no practical gameplay for it. Sure, it's fun to drive and stuff, but it's just too strong seeing as it can carry an entire team around.
fuck you use the falcon

The pelican has a more practical use in maps as big as the maps in reach, but I still don't see it being used as a player operated vehicle.

Or maps such as hugeass or coldsnap for custom.
The two biggest maps I have downloaded for custom.

Almost practical, but it would still carry the entire team and be nearly unstoppable if the pilot was decent and gave the guys in the back a firing angle, or the pelican had any guns.

Why does the pelican in Halo 2 and 3 not have a collision model with the BSP? Why does half of it fall through the map and spin around? in halo 1 the pelican had a collision model that had impact on both bipeds and the BSP, but in halo 2 and 3 it only seems to have impact with bipeds.
Still pelicand could be cool in MP but it would have to be a large map...very large and the pelican would need to beable to be shot down. heh just think playing a large party (f.ex 32 players), gathering your team and flying over in a pelican to steal the flag, but OH NOES THE ENEMY HAS AA WRAITHS! and shoots the pelican down! (i should have some sort of crash effect and maybe some function that picks at random who in the pelican that survives the crash.!
btw i know thathalo does not support 32 players (atleast not that i know of)i was just "dreaming"

OK seriously if any of you have custom download Hugeass/Coldsnap. Two huge maps with pelicans longswords and jets all of which can be shot down.
Fun as hell with 8+ players.
Coldsnap is the bigger of the two and you can only spawn in bases with the vehicals when playing ctf.
I use to play those maps on my highschool computers with my friends.
And if you don't have custom then download it.
Anyway...
Yeah I understood the question. That's why I commented that I have a halo 2 mod with drivable pelicans.
Anyway with the spinning you just need to be super pro ninja at getting into them, else you get hit and go flying far far away.
But it would be better with the collision model.
Oh and I just realized no one has answered your question. Cause bungie would have seen that they didn't need to put something they weren't going to use in the game. Why they put it in Halo 1 is the real question.

They included a lot of unused content in Halo 1, so that's probably why.

Also AA Wraiths are absolute shit at hitting anything faster than a tank.
Even if there was 32 player support, the pelican would be retarded. One of two things happens: The team with the pelican gets laughed at before being hit by a Spartan Laser (or any other decent anti-vehicle weapon), getting the enemy an instant killionaire extermination. The other possibility is that the other team doesn't have anything appropriate to kill the pelican with, and the people in the back would kill everyone with a hail of fire. Let's face it, fifteen of ANY gun is deadly.
All possibilities of the Pelican's function are fundamentally retarded. Either it would be unbalanced or be useless. (and yes, I know I'm not answering your initial question; fuck you I want to prove the lack of usefulness of the pelican)
