Yeah, but none of those books were banned by the state or federal government, all of those books were banned by individual libraries, schools, or school districts. Also, the book is not technically banned (you can still buy it online or at amazon/whatever).

As long as there is legit reason that there is artistic value in whatever piece of media, it is protected by the first amendment (and it is pretty easy to argue that this terror scene is artistic in the sense of evoking emotions).

In addition, no videogame has ever been banned in the US (GTA: San Andreas was banned by retailers like Gamestop and EB games after all the controversy until the censored version came out, but that wasn't government initiated). Because this game will be popular, I don't expect stores not to carry it. However, depending on how fast the news about this gets out, I wouldn't be surprised to see clueless soccer moms boycotting/protesting at game stores (Mothers Against Infinity Ward, anyone?).

Porn is censored (in that it's not on TV during the day).

This isn't violating the right to free speech, as other "morals" laws make it legal to keep children from seeing it, ect.

On the other hand, video games are covered by a rating system. Similarly to movies, the feds don't enforce ratings, thats entirely up to state government. Local legislators have tried to ban the sale of M games to minors, but this never works. So, it comes down to stores - retailers can refuse to sell M games to minors, or require parental permission. Most retailers refuse to sell AO games at all.

Thus, there are two ways for a video game to be "banned" -

1) Individual states decide that games of a certain rating (M in this case) can't be sold to minors. This wouldn't really be a banning.

2) The game gets an AO rating. Again its not banned, but retailers will refuse to sell it.

In situation 1, that has never happened, because it is illegal as shit (ESRB isn't run by the US government, it's a private corporation which makes a ton of money).

I laughed at this non-spoiler line:

Dialogue in the game contains profanity in both English (e.g., "sh*t") and Russian (e.g., "f**k" and "motherf**ker").

Also, I found it interesting that it has "Drug References," because in multiplayer you can unlock different emblems for you character, including a joint on a namecard and a pot leaf.

Also, the reason porn isn't on TV (day or night if you don't have 5 billion channels) is that the FCC regulates broadcast television (Why there are certain swears you can't see on TV). Any station that broadcasts over the airwaves must abide to FCC rules. The only way to get around this is if you have cable or satellite, granting you channels that are not available for free over the airwaves, thus they are not regulated by the FCC.

Hmm once when i went to Portugal i turned the TV on to something that obliviously was some type of kids show, aka people in animal suits and so on (just carnival style) but then after the commercial a hardocore pornmovie came on....im kinda wondering what Portugese people let thier kids watch, o maybe its for all those dads who get bored of the childrens TV, so they take a short break show some porn to make the dads happy and then continue with the childrenbs show......

It does work, New Zealand they are starting to come down hard on ratings and stuff, I was asked for ID when buying Halo 3: ODST and I don't carry ID and I am clearly over 17 but they guy couldn't sell it to me unless I did so I had to get my mother in to buy it for me
